Based on the 1980 movie, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, this musical is about three women\u2019s lives in the work force, and dealing with their \u201csexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot\u201d of a boss. The score is amazing, the jokes are never-ending, and the message is about living to your true potential. You\u2019ll be humming tunes from the show for weeks after you see it!<\/p>\n

First Fridays Ypsilanti
\nAugust 4<\/span><\/h2>\n

First Fridays Ypsilanti is a self-guided monthly art and culture walk hosted throughout downtown Ypsilanti at multiple venues. On the first Friday of every month, participating venues offer free art activities involving local artists, musicians, and\/or tastings. The goal of the First Fridays Ypsilanti is to invite community members into the downtown area to have fun and support local talent and businesses.<\/p>\n

Manchester Street Art Fair
\nAugust 5<\/span><\/h2>\n

Be sure to save the date and invite family and friends to join you for a fun-filled day in the Village of Manchester.\u00a0“Run Manchester\u201d kicks off the day’s festivities beginning at 8:00 am\u00a0<\/span>and features a 10K, 5K, and 1 mile Fun Run. The OutFest 2017
\nAugust 4 – 6<\/span><\/h2>\n

OutFest is a weekend festival in Ann Arbor to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer identities, community, and allyship. Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6 the community comes together for entertainment, community, vendor, fun and most importantly, pride. The festival, hosted by the Jim Toy Community Center (JTCC), has been moved to August to accommodate an ever-growing festival. All proceeds go to helping support the efforts of the JTCC – a local area nonprofit resource center that provides information, education, social events, and advocacy by and for the LGBTQ and ally community.<\/p>\n

The Dragonboat Festival
\nAugust 5<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Dragonboat Festival is an annual celebration of DIY building and\u00a0design, culture, competition, community, and fun. \u00a0Dragonboat Festival 2017 will be held at the lower pond of Robin Hills Farm and will feature various competitive Dragonboat races using homemade boats. The event begins at 10 am with a boat exhibition where spectators can visit and photograph the many different boat designs. The exhibition will be followed by a series of boat-race heats around the lower pond where teams will be competing against one another in hopes of advancing further into the competition. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

DIYpsi Indie Art Fair
\nAugust 5\u00a0& August\u00a06<\/span><\/h2>\n

DIYpsi (dip-see) is an\u00a0art fair featuring all hand-made items. It takes\u00a0place in Ypsilanti\u2019s business districts once each summer and winter. For two weekends each year, the best indie artists from the area put on this one of a kind shopping experience. The event also includes incredible handcrafted food and drink <\/span>so bring your appetite!<\/p>\n

Dexter Daze
\nAugust 11 & August 12<\/span><\/h2>\n

Dexter Daze has occurred annually for 45 years. Enthusiasm and community growth have developed an event that includes artisans, crafters, businesses and free entertainment for the whole family. The event runs Friday from 4:00 pm -10:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am \u2013 10:00 pm.<\/p>\n

Plein Air Festival
\nAugust 14 – August 19<\/span><\/h2>\n

For the 5th year in a row, under the curious and watchful eye of the public, local and visiting artists will paint for four days in and around Dexter. The festival culminates with a two-day exhibit and silent auction of all competition artwork in the Tent Gallery in Monument Park. Activities included a friendly competition for professional and emerging artists, a quick-draw painting competition, a silent auction and artwork sale, and more.<\/p>\n

\"Nashbash<\/a><\/div>\n

Nashbash Music Festival
\nAugust 18<\/span><\/h2>\n

Nashville singer\/songwriter Sally Barris headlines the 10th Anniversary of the Nashbash Music Festival. Set in the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, the event features a roster of first-class national and local performers in an intimate neighborhood atmosphere, making Kerrytown the place to be on Thursday evening during the dog days of summer. The artistic force behind Nashbash is Whit Hill, a longtime member of the Ann Arbor arts community who now lives in Nashville. True to Nashbash tradition, she and her band Whit Hill and the Postcards join the Nashbash roster, which this year also includes local favorites Hoodang, The Bill Edwards Band, The Judy Banker Band and The Whiskey Charmers. The festival runs from 5:00pm – 9:30pm.<\/p>\n

Super Run
\nAugust 19<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Super Run is a superhero themed event featuring a 5k and a family friendly fundraising run. The event takes place at Gallup Park in Ann Arbor and goes from 8:00am – 11:00am. Enjoy entertainment and other family activities.<\/p>\n

Chelsea Community Fair
\nAugust 22 – August 26<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Chelsea Community Fair is hosted at the Chelsea Fairgrounds, which is located just south of downtown Chelsea. The annual fair is organized and run by the Board of Directors and the Daily Activity Fair Committees and takes place in mid-August.<\/p>\n

German Park Picnic
\nAugust 26<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you are looking for authentic German fare, beer, and dancing look no further than the German Park Picnics. German Park hosts its annual picnics on the last Saturday of June, July and August. The picnics are a true Ann Arbor tradition which have been held every summer for over 75 years. The final German Park Picnic of the summer will take place August 26 from 4 pm – 11 pm and will feature the band Enzianaus Detroit as well as the Thachtengruppe Dancers who will perform at 6 pm and 8:30 pm. Bring cash to buy tickets, refreshments, and souvenirs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ypsilanti Heritage Festival
\nAugust 26\u00a0– August 28<\/span><\/h2>\n

Ypsilanti Heritage Festival is a free community festival featuring arts and crafts, live music, family activities and entertainment, historical presentations, and more. This year\u2019s festival is being held Friday, August 25 through Sunday, August 27. Local\u2019s say that the Rubber Ducky Race (on Sunday at 5 pm) is the highlight of the festival.<\/p>\n
